Default cruise control/speedo not working

96 accord. ever since i had the transmission rebuilt my cruise control wont engage. also randomly while im driving, maybe 2 days out of the week, i'll notice the needle in my speedometer will bounce up and down and then drop to 0 (i solve this problem by going to bed and waking up the next day and it works fine).

are these issues linked? do i just need to replace the speed sensor? before i drop $$$ i just want to be sure. the cruise control i need (lead foot issues)... i can live without a speedo (there's an app on my phone for that)

if the VSS sensor wont work then the cruise control wont work too...

you can buy a new VSS in ebay for like 7 $...

I have one in my accord and work great.
