Yes speed sensor, its not a hard fix you can easily do it yourself with the right tools... Also you can buy speed sensors from Ebay for less than $10, that's where I got mine and its been working for about a year now.

It can make your car shift erratically and cause hard shifting. You should get it fixed.

SPEEDO DOESN'T WORK

I so badly want to say put on some pants....

But i'll pass and instead tell you that a VSS isn't all that expensive to replace. Try locating a used one or borrowing a friends to see if it makes a difference, then you'll know for sure whether to purchase a new one or not.

In other words, stop going to a mechanic about it...just grab one and test it out. Mechanics are a headache and often give you unnecessary run around and even mislead you as to what the problem really is.

Transmission codes are read through the D4 light. Simply jumper the two wire blue diagnostic connector from behind/below the glovebox door. If there are any codes stored the respective warning light CEL/D4/ABS will blink it's respective code.
Not until '96 with OBDII could you get a more detailed code/scanner readout using the OBDII port.

If there is no VSS code it probably is a faulty speedometer.

It could always be the circuit board in your speedo going out. But since you have the D4 light I doubt it. I just replaced a circuit today for absolutely free and about 10 minutes of my time. Both are easy to fix.

Hi there i recently just brought a honda accord 1994 coupe ex 2 door. My speedometer is not working so i brought a vss sensor and replace it but when i drove the car was blinking on d4. Of course i stop the car and open the glove box and use the paperclip to see what is flashing? and it seem to be flashing 4 time. Can anyone help me out? i try every method but the speedometer is still not working.

My 1994 ex speedo/odo malfunctioned, I went salvage with a whole cluster and it turned out that speedo/odo circuit board was bad also. I tried re-soldering with no success. I picked up a third board and that fixed the problem.
