Possibly bad oil pump??
I've searched and couldn't really find the answer I'm looking for. Bought a rex a few weeks ago. The previous owner did a z6 swap on it. He couldn't get it to run right. I figure out the problem and it was off timed by 5 tooth. I'm surprised the car still started being like that. Well I fixed the issue. Let the car sit there and idle for awhile. Then I heard this loud clattering and metal sound from the timing belt side. Oil light on the cluster is not on. Haven't had the chance to connect a oil pressure gauge cause I had to leave for work. It will idle just fine while the noise is going on but when I give it a little throttle, it will just bog out and shut off. But the motor will turn back on no problem. So that sort of rules out bad bearing etc. But could a bad oil pump make that noise?
A bad oil pump wouldnd " bog" your engine. Unless it isnt working at all and the bearings are bone dry. But NO i doubt it. Still sounds like a bad timing issue. Send pics of timing marks at tdc compression stroke.
Well I'm 100% sure timing is correct. I had to purchase a new back cover for the cam shaft because the tab for tdc was broken off. It idle just fine till after awhile I heard the noise. It started off like something was loose and vibrating against the metal then next thing I know, it started to make this horrible chatter and clanking noise.

if the oil pump is binding up and the gears are hitting the case or something, sure it can bog the engine, clanking from around where the oil pump is and no oil pressure sound like a pump, take it apart and inspect it, there is no telling what was done before

if you are getting clanking noises from the pump area and the light is on, it's probably not the sender, metal on metal noises generally indicate something is wrong, and I sure wouldnt be starting and running it until I knew why, not even for a minute, how long do you think it takes to spin a bearing?
