6.2 gallons til empty, somethings up
Hey guys, this problem of mine has finally ticked me off enough. I do believe I made an error when installing my walbro 255lph although I dont get how, and I dont have any pictures of the assembly I submerged into the tank.
I only get about 23liters (about 6 gallons) to a tank. Fuel gauge reads about 1/4. Ive read lots of people with this EXACT problem because they used the cheap filter that the walbro kits come with, but I did not, I re-used the one that I pulled off of my stock pump.
That could be the problem though, as my car is jdm rhd, would the fuel strainer be any different than a USDM one?
I dont know what else to say, Id love to just drop my tank and have a look but Id rather have the appropriate parts there on hand to swap in to fix the problem. Could it be anything OTHER than improper fuel strainer?
Just popped in my head, maybe it fell right off?

Wish I took a pic of the assembly before I put it together, I definetely installed that black isolator, possibly incorrectly?
I doubt the sock fell off, im sure I would have connected it solid..
but hell I dont know, only 6 gallons til empty...

Thanks for the link, I did already infact buy the filter listed in that thread though, the Airtex FS121. I also bought a new walbro 255.
The thing I dont get though.. is how Im fuel starving with an OEM sock though, so I either installed the walbro to high up on the assembly that drops into the tank, or possbly my stock sock has fallen off...?
ive always thought my pump was getting a little loud, so buying a new pump and filter can be piece of mind.
Sounds like im just going to have to drop the tank when the parts arrive and see whats going on in there.
I was pretty happy I could fill my car for less than $20 though lol, even if it did only get me 150miles lol

walbro's are just loud period. i say drop your tank. i think it took me an hour with no previous experience to get it down when i did my swap
I know there loud, mine is the loudest Ive heard though, sometimes audible from outside the vehicle VERY clearly, its been through a few setups and 2 cars with me, so Im just going to replace it.
I also have a custom 3" exhaust on this car, which will need to be removed to drop the tank, so itll take me the better part of the day when the pump arrives Im sure, no big deal, just no easy task

Had enough time to drop my exhaust and the tank today. I expected to find the fuel filter not attached to the pump, but it was....

new walbro and Airtex FS121 filter on left, old walbro and oem EF7 filter on the right

The pack of airtex filters I bought came with sleeves for the fuel pump, I managed to use 2 around the assembly, in hopes of quieting down the pump

So a few things changed in this new assembly. Most noteably was the rubber isolator at the bottom of the pump, I was previously using the one that came with my walbro install kit, it is .675" thick, but the one that came with my airtex filter, only .335" thick... but it didnt fit as good as the walbro one, needed a little trimmin with a razor blade to fit around the pump and int eh grooves, but it sits the pump that much lower...
Also the filter itself, if you look at the picture of the pump side by side, the airtex reaches lower in the tank, but only the filter element part, the "neck" of the filter seems to be about the same height.
Anyways, its in the car and running. It runs QUIET, the pump sleeves and zip ties really made a difference I think. Im just gonna do some normal driving and see if I can get below 1/4 tank, might take a day or two to get there
Hope it worked!!
