Default Strange stalling issue arround 3500 rpm.

My del sol is a 1993 SI with the 1.6L and is doing some strange things. When it is cold, if you rev to 3500 rpm slowly it will stall out. If you drive the car harder it will make it over 3500 and be fine, but shakes and misses from about 3500-4500 rpm and then drives fine in the higher rpm's. I'm looking for idea's. The previous owner put on a cold air intake and full exhaust system (with headers I believe).

Did the 1.6L Del Sol come with a mass air flow?

check plugs, wires, and fuel pressure, this is almost always where you start.

kinda sounds lie a fuel filter, but many things do.

That is all already in the plan for this week end. I will be doing plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor button, pcv valve, fuel filter, and maybe a valve cover gasket.

Yes. There is a check engine light on. I wasn't going to run it till after the tune up. Does anyone know where to get the check engine light code list is?

I finally got around to checking the check engine light. It is throwing a code 8 and code 9.
Any ideas guys? From a previous post for the OBD1 code list code 8 is TDC - Top Dead Centre Sensor and code 9 cylinder sensor (I think cylinder 1 sensor). My code list is pulled from honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=1901557. Any help is appreciated!

^^ i did a little bit of reading around about this problem and in this post above a guy said that those 2 sensors are 2 of 3 that are built into the dizzy. he had the same codes being thrown.. he replaced the dizzy and has went without a problem. hopefully that helps out some. check out that link and see if ya can find some more info man! good luck!

and why do you hate OBD1?? its the easiest man. well compared to all the rest.. thats why everyone switches to it..

Easiest for what, though? CANBUS is a lot easier for diagnosis. Hell, some of the new CANBUS systems can tell you if it's a sensor fault, or a wiring fault, and even where to look on the loom if it's a wiring problem.

Hey guys thanks for all the help. I put a new distributor in and not only did it fix all the issues, restore power, but it also cleared its own check engine light.

I really appreciate all the help!
