Default B16 from Si or D16Y8 Turbo

hello h-t

the title is pretty self explanatory

i was wondering if you guys think i should go d16y8 turbo or go stock b16.

each option would cost around 5k, i am aware of that.

im figuring i could get about 160-180hp from the d16 which is pretty quick and if i just swapped in a b16 (about 140)hp i wouldn't be able to do i/h/e due to the swap and BAR certification (i'm in Cali)

so, i am also wondering
1. what do i need on top of the edelbrock turbo kit #1500
2. Which one should i pick?
3. has anyone done a CARB legal turbo setup on a d16y8 before?

thanks!

You're not getting 160hp NA out of a D-series.
You need to go and do some research on all these options and educate yourself instead of posting a useless poll.

Go with a b16b or a b18c if you have 5k$. It shouldnt cost near that if you do the work yourself and shop around.

@ everyone

I know a d16y8 all motor wont get 160 hp I just wanted to see what people think and I've done plenty of research I'm not looking for facts I'm looking for opinions from people.
a stock b16 ctr from hmotorsonline.com is about 4k shipped for me and that's not even counting the suspension upgrades I would need to handle it.
and to the first person who replied: I was asking an opinion, not to educate me I'm pretty sure I looked up and did as much teaching to myself as I could.

a B16B as he says . . .. B16a's are dirt cheap . .. 800 for first gen, 1600 for second gen here in Canada . . . if you have 5K you can do almost any wicked swap. .. . why are you still wanting the 2 lowest Honda motors . .. . dude move up to 1.8l B or K swap . . . if you have 5k turboing a d is stupid . . .

if you did research . . . your a dummy for even posting this poll. why don't you spend some of that 5k on some education .. . . so you can learn to properly research. People around here (sorry to speak for everyone) don't give a flying **** what u r putting in your car . . . or how much you have to spend on it . . . this is HONDA TECH . . . technical information, help with insanely weird problems . . .

please done let me be the last one to flame this foooo

B16B is the BEST B16 motor anyone can buy. it comes from the Civic Type R.
I'm looking at a 96-00 Swap but a 96-98 car. I'm in California, so first gen won't work. I dont like in canada, so those $ statistics are highly off for the US. Everything costs more here. A b18B is the only thing that will work in the b range that's 1.8l, I simply don't have money to do that. The B16B has 185hp so that's why its the best b16.

Turbo vs N/A boringness, I'd rather have a turbo for the mid range power. and plus, from hmotors here in the US a B16A second gen is 3k shipped and i need a complete changeover.

Hes doing turbo for single cam..OP, B16 from the si are generally less than 1500..go b16 then turbo that, you have the funds.

IT WAS SIMPLY A MATTER OF OPINION I DIDN'T ASK FOR THIS! god can't someone just ask for an opinion from people that know something? Apparently not because all people on here want to do is tell me why it's wrong to ask a simple opinion question. why the heck do you think they even put a poll option on this site? That's right, to ask questions and get an answer!

I assumed it was common sense that you would turbo a B before D . . . . . I didn't even realize that took some thought . . .

Hes not getting a k swap for 5k, unless its off the street... And if he want b16, then he will probably get b16..b18s are indeed better imo. Gsr motors dont cost 5k either. More like around that 1500-2k range, which is still enough for a decent turbo set up. Good luck

You can get a COMPLETE GSR(b18c1) swap for 2.5K easily that leaves you at least 2K left over for some bolt on's. or if you're paying a shop to do it. would still leave you a grand.

OP - technical forums are not the place to post opinion polls. Technical forums are where you ask technical questions.

If you want to have a poll like this, post it in the General Discussion and Debate (GDD) forum; however, be prepared for naked and raw honesty there.
