Upon starting my newly rebuilt CRV sparks were flying around the intake manifold and alternator area I guess...I was the one turning the key so I didn't actually see it but was wondering what it could be. Just a wiring thing? Either way I don't like it.

What car and mods do you have?

Any blown fuses now? Any charring or white marks?

Check your main power wire to the alt. Not real sure why you should have sparks flying around your mani, but maybe the power wire insulation is torn and arching off of something. Be careful, your return fuel line is right behind there. Haha

Shouldn't be sparking. You need to look for loose or exposed wires. If you can't find anything then have your friend try to start the car while you look and go from there.

Very weird problem - but maybe try again with the lights off to get a better idea of where the sparks are coming from?

maybe you didn't bolt on the alternator power wire and it went loose and is now grounding on an engine part?

Alternator power wire might be exposed, and is grounding out, also possible that your spark plug wires are old and grounding out on the valve cover, and manifold.

The alternator power wire has power at all times. Key on or off, it's hot. It makes the most sense for location of the problem and amount of power it takes to create sparks like that, but doesn't make sense why it would do it at start up

Bought a grounding kit and that seemed to have resolved the problem. Thanks guys.
