people with lightened factory flywheels
Could someone please post a pic of their flywheel so I can see where the material was removed from? I have access to a metal lathe (sp?) and someone who knows how to use it, but he's never lightened a flywheel before.
Also, does anyone know if there's a difference in stock weight between the 88-91 flywheel and the 92-95? The flywheel that's about to go under the knife is from a '95 Si, and I'm planning on shaving apx 4 lbs off, but if that only takes it down to 88-91 weight, I might as well go a little further.
Don't worry, I plan to get the flywheel balanced and surfaced after I'm done hacking it up. And I'll be running it on a mostly stock NA D16A6, so I shouldn't have any shattering problems. Besides, if it does shatter, it's the passenger that gets hit, not me.

So, where the stock flywheel gets thicker as it gets to the outside, grind all of that down so it's the same thickness all the way out?

just pay someone 50 bones to have it done .. that way its not of balanced
The guy that's doing it for me knows how to use the lathe, and knows how to keep things in balance. Plus I plan to get it re - balanced when I'm done
I got a pic from a different board (special thanks to Mista Bone from the D-series board for this one) I thought I'd go ahead and post it on here for anyone that does a search and finds this thread in the future:
alright cool deal .. i thought you were about to just break out the dremel.. haha as long as you have it balanced your straight good luck man

Yah....just shave off the material on the outer parts of the f.wheel...you want some material left near the crank and stuff. ( for added strength) We did mine off of a brake lathe and we managed to shave it down to 11.8 lbs with out breaking ne thing....got it balanced and its been in mah car fer 30k now. Damn good for 80 bucks. Its not a Jun Ultra light but itll do
take off as much weight as you can from the furtherest point away from the center. i was able to get a 1/4" W x 1" L band taken off my stock flywheel. not sure how much weight it was, but it had to help.
