Countershaft nut tips or tricks?
Does anybody have any tricks or tips to get the countershaft nut off of a d16y8? The idiot who owned the trans before me impact wrenched it down so hard he cracked the bearing on the CS and when I pulled the case off it shattered. I tried using my impact wrench on it. Didnt work. I tried putting it in a vise and impacting it. Still didnt work.
Any tricks to this?

vise and a breaker bar?... maybe you haven't punch the lip of the nut out of the grove so it wont loosen or tighten enough to get it off... cut it out or make sure its fully away fromt he threads so you can get it off... ive gone as far as cutting them out to get those bolts off. they are like axle nuts they can be a pain in the *** if you cant bend that lip out all the way.
The vise and breaker bar didnt work either. Im going to try a stronger vise tomorrow. I used a punch and a hammer on it. The lip was broken already from the last guy that "tried" to do transmission work on it.
I'll report back tomorrow.

Use a better impact wrench, seriously, I take these things off all the time holding the countershaft with a gloved hand, they always spin off easily. If for whatever reason they wont work try an air chisel.
My buddys dad broke out his impact wrench with over 700 ft lbs and Still didn't get it off! We had to resort to cutting it off. Thanks for the tips though!
