Ignition Switch Bad?
My 99 CRV has developed it's first problem. Once in a while, when I turn the key to the start position, the starter won't engage. The solenoid makes no sound or anything. I can't reproduce the problem with any kind of consistency, so probing the solenoid wire when the system malfunctions isn't possible. My '94 Accord did the same thing, but much worse. It took about six or seven tries before she started this morning. I'm thinking the ignition switch might be going out. Am I on the right track here?
I'm going to bypass the clutch safety switch this afternoon and see if that alleviates the problem, to rule it out as a possible candidate.

Bypass the clutch switch next then. If that still doesn't work. You can access Hondas service manual online for free that gives you step by step directions on repairs

Jiggle the key while the engine is running. If it dies on you, that is a sign of an ignition switch going bad. Left alone, it will eventually strand you...no start at all. I have '99 Ody. A common problem was the ignition switch contacts wearing out. Apparently exacerbated by hanging a heavy keychain in it.
