Default D16Z6 to D16Y8 swap - Need advice

My high mileage DD Z6 needs a rebuild and I picked up a complete Y8 engine to run while machine work is done on the Z6. Please understand I am not looking for performance.

I have a 95 EX coupe and will use the engine harness and ECU that came with the car.

I will-

Swap the Z6 intake manifold onto the Y8 head.
Use the Z6 alternator.
Knock sensor and crank position sensor not used on Y8.
Convert the Y8 distributor wires to OBDI, no other mods to ignition are needed?
Use same motor mounts?

I'm just trying to get things in order before I start pulling engines. I didn't find much specific information on the topic. Thanks in advance.

you'll have to find a basemap for a y8. I don't recall ever seeing one though.

Honestly if its just for a temporary time, swap the alternator. Use the z6 distributor for which only one or two bolts will bolt up which will be fine. You can swap the manifold if you want if that's an option. I'd just leave the ecu, it'll run fine for the temporary time.

Thanks for the info.

If I decided to run the Y8 until it had issues I would need a tune on the ECU or is it irrelevant? I've got an extra P28. The more I think about it, I could save money by running it until it was shot.

Yeah just swap the dizzy and intake mani or you can get away with just the injectors. The Alt should not need to be swapped over but I could be wrong. The Z6 ECU will work just fine on the Y8. Why rebuild the Z6? I would just run the newer Y8 or have the Y8 rebuilt and drive the Z6 until it is done. The Z6 is a better motor IMO though but you are not looking for power.

The more I thought about it this afternoon the more I'm leaning towards rebuilding the Y8 before I even install it and not worry about it. It's going to be more cash than I want to spend but in the long run worth it. I'm a tight *** with money and we are talking about a 18 y/o civic here.

Thanks to you all for the information.
