I want to build my 91 civic cx just not sure what rout to take. Should I just do a mpfi swap or drop in a b18 or something else right away. I have a buddy who had a b18 in his and he liked it alot. I also would like to replace alot of the trim/ moldings and clean it up alot, but not sure where I can find it at. Any input/ ideas?

 

make it front wheel drive and weld the diff with a f22a6 with a b16 head and a k20 trans

 

seems like a long route if you're thinking of mpfi. im in the same boat as you with the swap...i have everything for the MP but it seems a waste of time if i source an engine and everything. if you have the money for the b series id do that. its a substantial increase in power over a stock ''b7.''

 

That's what I was thinking also, how hard is it to drop in a VTEC b16? You can pick the entire moter up for around a grand maybe a bit more.

 

pretty easy if you have the hoist and all the tools. ive seen some people put a dent in the wheel well so the alternator will fit. you need motor mounts but i heard you can use the driver side off a 95 del sol dohc. plus tranny and axles and misc. parts. thats cheap dude, good for you!

 

If your car is DPFI as it sits right now then any swap will REQUIRE you convert it to MPFI.

 

I understand I gotta do mpfi swap no matter what. I was just wondering if I should do all that work if I'm going to swap in a new motor anyway, or if I should just do mpfi swap and leave it as is.

 

Gotcha. Personally I'd do it on your stock motor because you know it's mechanically sound. The flip side is if your plan is to swap eventually then the parts specific to the d series will be sort of a waste.

I guess I've just had a few bad experiences with used engines.

 

I know my current d series motor is in good shape, got the car from a very meticulous ex Honda mechanic, I guess I should say I trust the guy. I don't need massive amounts of power. What can I expect to get out of a d series motor? And is there any reason for keeping a d series instead of swapping?
