Default timing at 30'?? mpg

i just replace the timing belt. the car runs runs and idles great. I set the timing at 16' with a timing light with the jumpers. the car gets bad mpg. But when i advance the dizzy to aorund 30' degress the rpm pick up and it sounds smoother. Is that normal? i Dont have no cel codes.

Set the ignition timing to spec and do a complete ignition system tune up.

Does the CEL work?
