Hey everyone...i am posting this for a friend who has a 94 sel sol si d16z6 auto. I personally have never been in the car when this "problem" happens but she claims the car is trying to crank but just not starting and this happens after a short or series of short trips. She returns to her car and tries to start it but it wont start, it just cranks...I know its not the fuel pump or fuel filter because I just replaced them with brand new OEM ones. It doesnt seem like the starter because the engine is cranking. I'm thinking it might be one or more of the injectors being clogged and not responding when the engine is hot after going for a drive. On cold starts it starts up just fine. No CEL or anything like that and i did a fresh tune up about a month ago when this problem first came about. any suggestions on what it may be or if im on the right track would be appreciated...on a side note how do i test the injectors to make sure they are working properly? thanks in advance

 

When the engine won't start, does the CEL stay on steady with the key in ON(II)? Does the fuel pump fail to prime?

If so, resolder the main relay and clean/tighten the G101 on the thermostat housing.

If the problem persists, you may need to replace the ECU.

 

^^^im going to try to see if i can "make" this problem happen while im driving and Ill take note of the CEL. Everytime I drive her car it starts and runs perfectly. The fuel pump is for sure priming everytime and I told her how to listen for it everytime she starts her car.



^^^ok if Its the ecu thats no big deal i can just get one for cheap and slap it on..

 

The ECU is only one of the possibilities. Rule out the others before replacing.

The tests I mentioned are of value only when the engine won't start.

 

I have an extra working main relay that ill install and see if it solves it....Please excuse my lack of knowledge but what is the g101? I know where the tstat housing is but im unfamiliar with the g101. WHat about the injector(s)? do you think that could be a possibility?


yes i will make sure to test when this problem is happening.

 

Ground wire attached to thermostat housing - see FAQs sticky for diagram.

The possibilities I mentioned, and others, are a better fit with the intermittent symptoms.
