Icon2 94 Del Sol starting slow

Hi All,

I have a 94 Honda Del Sol S and I bought it about 4 months ago. It has been running fine except the past few weeks it has been slow starting, it will start on the first try but it takes a long time. This problem gets worse when the car is in the sun/hot weather.

I just recently had the oil changed because I thought that is what it could have been but the problem is still persistent.

Does anyone have any idea what this problem may be? A new starter perhaps? please help!

Thanks,
D

Your main relay may be faulty. When the engine won't start, turn key to ON(II) and listen for whether you can hear the low humming noise of the fuel pump priming for 2 seconds. If not, replacing or resoldering the main relay should fix the problem.

Could also be a faulty/failing fuel pump, leaking injector o-rings or jammed up fuel filter.

How hard is it to replace the main relay? How much will it cost?

duno about the pricing but its pretty easy to do. You just have to drop your Glove Box and its right behind it to the right.

I have been searching for a DIY on replacing the main relay and most show the main relay underneath the brake pedal, for the del sol the main relay is behind the glove compartment?

Anyone find a tutorial on how to replace the main relay on a del sol?

Also are you just replacing that mini circuit board inside the fuse? I just want to make sure I am understanding what I need to do here and this is my understanding from researching so far.

Only replace the main relay if, when you turn the key to ON(II), you don't hear the fuel pump prime. For 92-95 Civics, the main relay is located to the left of the dash fuse box. The Del Sol is likely similar.

If the main relay is bad, you can replace or resolder it. Resoldering is described here.
