Hesitation While Driving
So yesterday on my way to work i did a hard pull up to about 5000rpm in first gear to get out into traffic. On the way home the car ran perfectly fine. this morning on my way to work it acted like it wasnt getting gas and kind of "stalling". so i though since i had ran the gas tank pretty dry before filling may the filter was clogged. replaced the fuel filter today and its still having the same issues. Im at a lost for what to do next. This is my daily driver so any help is appreciated.
If it's bucking and jerking while appearing to be trying to stall, but never actually stalling, but just bogging down in a major way, then perhaps your exhaust system still has the original or a very old Oxygen Sensor in it. That will cause bogging due to the bad O2 sensor causing incorrect air-fuel mix. The bucking and jerking is really the engine choking and sputtering under load. There are lots of possibilities, though. Something as routine as plug wires that have run their useful life can cause similar symptoms.
Its jerking for sure but doesnt stall. I have noticed that the idle is quite a bit lower where i feel like it may stall. Normally idles at about 900-1000. But since the problem started its sitting at about 450-500 moving up and down in that range. Could it be possible i jumped my timing when doing the hard acceleration? it does have 245000 on it as it sits.
-check for codes first: http://check-engine-light-codes.blog...retrieval.html
-check fuel pressure and injectors
-check the plugs, wires and distributor
-check timing

You might have fouled a plug during the hard pull. But if you did, the symptoms would be noticeable all the time, not just sometimes. It would be like an engine knock each time the bad plug doesn't send the sprk to burn the fuel. A couple of years ago, I fouled my ICM (Ignitor) with a about 10 seconds of very rapid, hard acceleration in third gear. My symptoms, though, was random stalling while driving, but I also noticed the idle was lower. My Honda just didn't feel like it would start up with the same "energy" in the morning like it usually had. That was all related to the weak spark from the bad ignitor. If your car starts cutting off randomly, suspect the ignitor.
You also might want to read up on the IACV (Idle Air Control Valve).. Maybe the hard acceleration effected it in some way. Lots of information here on this site about removing it and giving it a good cleaning. Also the hard acceleration might have drawn debris from the bottom of your gas tank into the fuel line, but again, you would probably be noticing symptoms more regularly if that was the case. It's something to keep in mind, though.
The problem is going to be related to either spark or fuel. Determining which one is the key.
Note: When my O2 Sensor failed, it did not place a code in the OBD1 computer, so there was no check engine light.
