2009 honda si oil burining, is it normal?
Hello guys, I have a simple question, i have a 2009 si (fg2) that I bought from the dealer (it wasnt a brand new) and since then ive been having the problem in which in a certain time I need to add oil to my engine, is it normal?
the dealer told me that every 1000 miles i need to add oil, my dad told me that because it is a new car it shouldnt be doing that.
I asked at the autozone they told me that it is ok to burn oirl.
last time i was at the dealer, the lady that helped me told me that one of her co-workers had the same problem and that she fixed it, so I am confuse,
Is it normal that my si is burining engine oil?

How much oil over how many miles? Honda's DOHC VTEC motors burn oil during VTEC operation, that is normal. It should never be burning endless quarts though.
I am not sure how many miles, I assumed that it would burn oil during vtec operation (which sometimes I just like to make love to it
), but while driving it as usual it shouldnt be burning out huh?

To whom ever says it is normal why?
Burning oil like that is not normal. VTEC or not a qt., every 1,000 miles is not normal. It is not like the manual says pull over and add every 1,000. miles. If that was the case how many people would have blown there motor before their next oil change because many people don't check the oil that often.

Have you had motor check well for a leaking? How many miles are on it. Also, is the engine making any unusual noise. Like being louder than other motors that type. Also, you can switch the oil quality to give you better protection.

If you contact pretty much any auto manufacturer, they will tell you it is perfectly acceptable for an engine to use a quart of oil in 1000 miles. Some will tell you 1 quart in 500 miles is acceptable. This doesn't mean every engine will use this much oil, it just means it isn't a problem if it is. That's why you are supposed to check the oil in your car, even when it's only a week old. I've had engines that burned a quart in 200 miles. I've had others that burned .25 of a quart in 3000 miles. Each engine is different. Check the dipstick and get rid of the preconceived notion of what is normal.

The K-Series engine is a high-revving, high-compression motor built to rev hard and heavy. Hell, it was developed on the Formula 1 circuit, and adapted to passenger vehicle technology because of its passive yet aggressive abilities. If you drive it hard, it will burn oil, simple as that.
I personally need to change my oil every 2500 miles or so...lulz.

k20 is one of the most bullet-proof motors on the road. Junk tranny all day...but the motor is a masterpiece.

And incorrect.

K20 =/= every engine.
Remember...this is a high output, high compression motor. Most NA 4-bangers struggle to put 100whp to the pavement, and the k20z3 manages 170whp on a conservative dyno.
Same thing with the F20C/F22C.
All of the K-Series competitors require forced induction to match the power of the K, and even at that, they struggle to match without causing the engine to blow up every time you take it over 5k.
What would you rather...a little burnt oil, or a blown engine?

it could be worse my old Lincoln just leaks it everywhere, fix one leak and another one pops up, no wonder they have a standard low oil level light built in, it's marking it's territory
