Default 00 si burning oil?

My brothers si seems to have developed a taste for oil. It seems to go through almost a quart everytime he fuels up the car. There are no visible leaks anywhere and its not smoking, so I really have no clue what the problem could be. He took it to the dealership as its under warranty for another 200 miles, and they told him HONDAS MAY USE UP TO 1 QUART OF OIL EVERY 1000 MILES. Does this sound right or is this bs? Also, his warranty is due to expire and they told him to bring it back in 600 miles at which point the warranty is gone. More bs or is this standard procedure? TIA

well, it depends on how he is driving it. if he is flooring it all the time and visits vtec frequently, yes the car will burn a bit of oil. you just have to check the oil level sometimes and fill it up a bit. i check my car every other week or so.
if he still has warranty, tell him to think of whatever he wants to get checked before it expires.

It should not be using that much oil. I add oil to mine maybe one time between oil changes. Sorry i have no suggestions to whats wrong. Leaks or smoke is all i would suggest and you said no to both of them.

the valve seats mabe worn or the rings are shot but it should not burn that much oil I just drove up north 6 hours strait in about 105 degree heat doing 80 the whole way and for the first time my car burned a little and I mean a little oil. I would get the extended warinty if I was your friend and take it back to the dealership and make them fix it. Onther reason why soem Hondas burn oil is driving at WOT all the time and the lack of the driver cleaning there Aftermarket air filters. My mechnic and I have done alot of sesearch behind this and have found the the after maket filter make HP and flow more air but if they are not cleaned every 3K miles or so they let even more small dirt particals in the motor witch sratches cylindrer walls causing oil consuption and waring rings had a friend have oild buning prob becasue of this he took off intake an put stock filter on it and wala stoped the problem for the most part considering the damage had been done alreadey

Man, that sucks for a newer car like that. How many miles are on it???

Are you the original owner? Just curious b/c if you don't know the history that motor could be really messed up.

I have a 2000 SI and I drive the absolute hell out of it... I mean, I take it to redline nearly everytime I leave a stop light and my car doesn't burn any recognizeable amount. I drove it through the mountains all day once and in vtec for probably 45 mins straight, and I hardly burned any oil.
R/g the dealer
I would take it back and tell them to fix it... Or take it to another dealer.

Also, just FYI... in some states, you can take your car to YOUR mechanic and they can bill the dealer for warranty work.

I hope this helps..

If it wasn't properly broken in, than that could be your issue. I know my Si never went through that much oil but I also got it with 3 miles on it an allowed it to be broken in properly. Two other people I know have this problem (one has a 99 Si and the other is a 98 GSR). Both of them got there cars with a few hundred miles on them. This means they were most likely test driven and the piston rings probably weren't sealed correctly if the cars were beat on the first few miles. Just a thought.....
