'97 CR-V - Could use some help, stuck in "1" & "2"
Hello!
So here is exactly what happened.
I was taking a friend home last night and pulled into his driveway. He jumped out, and I proceeded to back out like normal. Once I was out, I tried to shift into D4. I overshot it, you could say, and somehow got all the way down to "1". (I added a picture below to show what the shifter shows for reference.)

It was unusual though... usually I'll only accidentally shift into D3 (one too far). This time it seemed to just slide down like butter... not that it didn't have resistance, just that it was unusually easy to get into 1. I should also note it has always been hard to get into 1. It took me several tries weeks ago while playing around (I'm not sure whether or not this is normal or not).
After attempting to get it unstuck with no avail, I then proceeded to drive home in "1" since it was a short drive in a neighborhood. I pulled into the garage and tried to put it in park. Won't budge. This probably wasn't the best course of action, since now I'm stuck in the garage with no reverse, key stuck in the car, and the car won't start.
I got out the manual to make sure I wasn't doing anything stupid. The manual seems to say "just shift, it's not that hard" so I think there is definitely a problem? Being that it was approximately 2 am, I just went to bed.
Got up the next morning (today) and began researching. I found people with similar problems who said lubing the shift linkage may do the trick. So I followed a guide, and sprayed a little WD-40 on what I believe to be it. (Below is a picture of what I sprayed, after removing cover.)

It seemed to have no effect, still can shift between "1" and "2" but can't get into anything else.
This is my first car and I am no mechanic by any means. I'm just trying to save money, since I know this is going to cost a lot to get it towed and fixed...
I appreciate any advice! I'd appreciate even to know if this is above me trying to fix. Sorry for such a lengthy post, hopefully I didn't bore you too much.
Thank you!

do you think the shift lever is stuck or the tranny (where the cable is attached)
try to take the cable off that bracket (take the plate off) where you sprayed..
you should be able to move that easily...have someone move the shift lever and see if it moves
maybe your cable is corroded/stuck...
