2002 V6 EX-L A/C compressor not engaging
Hi All,
Looking for a little insight for an issue that popped up yesterday. All was good with A/C one moment, the next moment, no cold air. The compressor does not seem to be even trying to kick in, no noise at all. Curiously, the cabin blower will only run at full speed, whether the A/C is turned on or off. The car has automatic climate control. I searched and found a lot of information for other models, years etc.. but nothing exactly the same as my situation popped up. Just wondering if there was anyone else who has had this exact problem or may just have some idea where to start. Any help would be appreciated. BTW- Refrigerant pressure was checked about 3 weeks ago and all was well at that time.
Thanks in advance.
Jon

Hi DJ,
Thanks for the info. Don't have any gauges but will certainly check to see if it spins freely. One additional observation, if I select a/c after the car has been shut off fpr a while the compressor will occasionally try to run but will shut down within a couple seconds.
Thanks again.

I had the same exact problem before and what it was was the expansion valve was freezing over due to it being bad. After the ac cuts off and it not on for a while the freezing melts away and the system works for a few more secs before it does it again...Replaced it and all good after that. This could possibly also be the drain hose being plugged up. You can check it when you replace the expansion valve.
I just told someone how to replace the valve in a previous post. Just do a search of my posts as it's a long post a few days ago and you gotta do some of the work here. lol
just be sure to check the drain hose at the bottom of the evaporator core for pluggedness..you can use a wire or some sort to poke through it to see if it's plugged
you will need a shop to evacuate the system...then you replace the explansion valve as well as the receiver/dryer and then you can either recharge it or have the same shop recharge it it's up to you
