Air Conditioner compressor cycling on and off immediately?
Not to sound too dumb, but my daughter's boyfriend charged her 2002 Civic's air conditioner yesterday with R134a because it had no cooling. He put in about two and a half 12 oz. cans - - is that too much? Compressor now just clicks on and off - - air is cold but with compressor cycling on and off she can't run it. Can we just let some refrigerant out? I guess I should get a pressure gauge and check it myself?
thanks!
thanks!

Here's a link to a table of the AC capacities for all makes and models: http://www.motor.com/PDFs/QLG2...s.pdf
Bleeding off some of the refrigerant would more than likely solve your problem.

That's true, when i tried doing it myself my compressor would kick on and off too. I ended up not putting enough refrigerant in. According to that table he had put too much in.

yeah that table shows there should only be 18 oz. of refrigerant in the 01-02 civics, and from what it sounds like you have around 30 oz. of refrigerant in there. I would say that is your problem.
And for future prevention of problems don't let your daughters BF miss with her car anymore. Tell him to leave it to the mechanically inclined.
