I have an eg hatch with a y7 motor if I put an a6 camshaft in it would it make a difference

Do more research before you "just try it" You don't want to piece it together and have to start over. Check matching part numbers, diagrams, service manuals and then your last resort is to make a thread for experienced users to respond.
