D15B vs D15B VTEC (HELP!)
I need a new motor but Im broke. I can afford a d15b but the intake manifold is different. it seems like a carb. its on jdmtigerjapanese.com for 595$ and i was told i only have to change the intake manifold. The d15b vtec has the same intake as my d15b7 non vtec. i know i would have to wire vtec and everything else is plug and play. im also aware i need a p08 or p28 ecu. Any thoughts, opinions and advice between the two is greatly appreciated since i dont know everything i might need. Thanks
Use your intake and run the non vtec if you want.
I'm in the same boat as you need a motor but no cash.
And what body car?year?
P28 would be for vtec and p06 for non vtec. Either way id chip the ecu and do all tuning.

im probably going to get the non vtec. i got a 1992 4dr DX with the d15b7 non vtec. its plug n play so all i should need is an intake manifold gasket. i should be able to run the stock ecu on the non vtec d15b right?
Doesn't matter which engine you choose, you don't have to hook everything up. You can put the JDM D15B in it and reuse whatever intake manifold you've got laying around, just don't plug the VTEC in and you'll be fine.
Also worth mentioning, but jdmtigerjapanese (kind of a redundant name don't ya think?) is probably the absolute last place on earth you should consider buying a motor from. No, scratch that, jdmtigerjapanese shouldn't even be an option for consideration when buying an engine. Google "tiger japanese engines" and read all the horror stories from the past decade from that place.

Budget and availability will dictate your next move. If you need it RIGHT NOW an importer may not be your best choice. I always see engines on Craigslist in my area. It has to be the same for you. But with the sound of desperation in your post you may not have any other immediate option.
