Default Hitachi distributor bearing replacement? New dizzy - Honda or aftermarket?

I have a 2001 Accord LX with F23A1 engine. Distributor is Hitachi D4T97-03.

Oil leaking internally and externally at distributor. Had planned to change the o-ring and internal seal. But as I read more about the internal leak, it became apparent that the seal failure might be because the shaft is not rotating linearly because the bearing is bad.

Does any one have an aftermarket bearing part number and purchase source?

If I want to replace the distributor should I choose a Honda distributor or is aftermarket OK? If aftermarket is there a better brand I should go with? I want the thing to last at least 2-3 years 35000-50000 miles.

check the play in the shaft before you try to find a bearing for it. the seals have a bit of give to them and should make up for what would be considered significant bearing play (clearance).

if you're handy at taking things appart and having them still work when you put them back together, you should have no trouble installing a new inner seal and bearing. you may need to pick up a bearing puller if you don't have one (harbor freight is where i got mine) and a properly sized bolt, nut and stack of washers work well to press the new one in (bearing and seal alike).

i don't have a part number for you and if no one else comes up with one i would suggest picking up a distributor housing at your nearest self-service yards. that way you have practice pulling one appart and you can rip the old bearing and seal out without fear of damage to get the size and/or part number from them.

As it turns out, the bearing turned smoothly and had no play. The o-ring and inner seal were brittle. The dizzy inside was pretty oil-soaked, although most was making it out the weep hole.

Ease enough to replace them. [Just be sure to take photos and make scribe marks to get the reassembly orientations/timing correct.]

o-ring - 30110-pc6-005
seal - Kok #3286; 12.45mm X 22mm X 6mm
