I just got my 97 integ LS (43k miles) 2 1/2 months ago and I'm lovin every moment driving it. Obviously it's used, and I have two minor problems with it...

1.The Cruise control doesn't work. It doesn't even seem like the car registers that it even has cruise control. The actual button lights up, but the dashboard light doesn't come on. Maybe some wire doesn't have a tight connection? I don't know...

2.my other problem is this rattling noise while I'm turning. It only happens after the car has had a long rest (overnight or after school), but the rattling goes away after 5-10 minutes of starting the car. The rattling sounds like someone put coins in a drying machine and the dryer is spinning really fast. Maybe there something loose in there?

3.Finally, I'm only getting about 19 mpg, combined city and highway. I do drive responsibly and don't race and my car is a completely stock LS. I was thinking that my fuel injectors might be dirty? Is there a way to check if there is dust/dirt in there? or should I just buy a new fuel injector?

These are all pretty much minor problems, but if I could get these fixed then I will one man. I'm pretty much a nooobie, so a more detailed explanation is welcome. Thanks in advanced!

 

problem 1) are you positive you are using it correctly? push the button on the dash behind the turn signal then push set on the steering wheel mech.

if the button lights up but you can't cruise take it to a professional to have it evaluated, could be the cruise control unit, could be the wiring in the steering wheel, could be any number of things. and the last thing you want to do is find out it is something in the steering wheel and try to pull it off and have the air bag deploy accidentally. let a shop deal with that hazzard.

problem 2) does the noise occur at full lock? likely the CV joints, but until someone can sit down in it that knows what they sound like and tell you for sure, diagnosing sound problems over the internet it sketchy at best.

problem 3) do a full tune up. spark plugs, wires, cap/rotor, clean fuel injectors. if the car is over 60k miles and there is not a good service history with the car get the timing belt and water pump changed while you are at it.

anyway, mixed driving you won't get very good mileage, freeway only your target area (well mine with a GSR is 27-30) is probably in the 25-30 range. street should be somewhere around 20.

nope, no mods, besides an air freshner .. ehh...how do I reset the ECU??
