Default 6psi spring. creping to 16psi stock gsr

hey guys, frirst off let me say i do not know alot about forced induction. i am looking to buy a car thats all ready built. but i have a few questions as iam un sure. just looking for some helpful info and maybe some tips to look for.

specs:

stock gsr
arp studs
oem headgasket
ported head
blox intake manifold
rc 1000 injectors
68mm throttle body port matched.
hondata intake manifold gasket
garret t67 .87 a/r
top mount manifold
tial 38mm
4 inch down pipe
aem methanol injection
tuned on s300 by jeff evans
approx 2 months ago

my question is im told it made 415hp . it has a 6PSI spring in the gate but creeps to 16 psi towards 8k rpm. is this safe ? does this sound right. anything in particular i should look for? any help is greatly appreciated. thanks guys

Sounds like it was tuned that way. Something to look into is safely regulating or controlling boost you don't want to have to watch it all the time

he claims it will not go higher. if it was tuned that way is that a bad tune ? what can i do for saftey on my end to make sure it doesnt go higher. i allways thought it could only go as high as the wastegate spring. thats whats confusing me

What is used to tune it? Does it have a boost controller?

In cases of boost creep the wastegate is fully open and it cannot bypass enough exhaust gases to control the speed of the turbo. We see this often in configurations with large turbos running low boost and small wastegates. Manifold design also plays a critical role in where the wastegate is placed and how its angled. If the collector is very short a single wastegate may not bleed exhaust from the far runners.

In these cases the recommended solution is to run a larger wastegate or multiple wastegates.

38mm wastegate with a 67 mm turbocharge = super boost creep. Get a second 38mm gate or one large one preferable 60mm unless your collector is long enough and you give wastegate priority then a 44-45mm. Will work

Slight correction but the remedy is still recommended

i was thinking of adding a second wastegate to the manifold

muckman: i talked to you a while back. iam local to Rick. do you think if i brought him the manifold he could weld another flange for a 2nd 38mm? also if i add the second gate will i throw my tune off??

also if i do add a second wastegate thus eliminating boost creep i will loose alot of power correct? i guess im also wondering if the car is tuned for all of the extra boost its hitting? jeff evans knows his stuff from what ive read, so i trust the tune its just that i dont now enuff about forced induction

Hey I didnt recognize you were local because you dont have your location in your profile. Yes Rick would def be able to weld it up.

Evans simply tuned for the boost surge. If it was surging while he was tuning he may not have been able to tune the higher rpm cells for the lower boost. Your tune may need to be cleaned up in that corner of the map, no big deal.

If you eliminate the surge then you wont be running 16psi on the top end which of course will mean less power. But you would be able to control it with a boost controller if you wanted to increase it from the wastegate spring. Personally Id probably just leave it as its tuned for it so its safe...

Pull your spark plugs and see if they've been cooked.
