Tom vs. Crank bolt Pulley :Fight!:
This is a cross-post from integra...but I thought you guys might like to see this too.
So I had my timing belt changed awhile ago at Brunswick Acura in EB, NJ. They suck, end of story. My belt was off 1 tooth and the timing was all fucked up. So I decided to fix it this past weekend.
So my trusty tools and I go at the infamous crank bolt pulley. Here are the casualties:
1 tq wrench from sears...$60
2 3/8 rachets
3 3/8 10" extensions.
So I went to Pep Boys (close to house, it was getting late) and get 1/2 drive stuff. This, combined with my 4' lead breaker bar from hd got the job done.
Bastard bolt!
There was another casualty though...my tranny bellhousing. I jammed a screwdriver up against the flywheel to stop the engine from turning over...and this is what happened:
After all was said and done I threw in some new plugs, did an oil change, set the timing and was on my way.
These were taken the next morning while I was washing the car

How did you break the torque wrench?
I'm an idiot. We'll just leave it at that...

Gosh, I love the Moroso bar we have.

I had a similar battle...ended up buying the tool from Honda...I believe it was $60 to $80... saved me a lot of headaches...especially when I work on a car that hasn't had this bolt loosened before
never use a tq wrench to loosen! eric

My dad did that with all our torque wrenches. Needless to say, they are all messed up and I need to get another one. Craftsman any good?

Craftsmen tq wrench does NOT have a lifetime warranty, so I'll be shelling out another $60 sometime soon. And yes, I did use it as a breaker bar...
I'm such an idiot sometimes I amaze myself.

I bought that bar and it was no help at all. I just borrowed my GF's uncle's air tool. Couple of minutes later with a few shots of pb blaster and it was out.

don't waste the money on craftsman crap. get a real torque wrench - snap on tq100. it has a swivel head, excellent adjustment **** (no more spinning the wrench), and weighs 1/3 as much as other wrenches. also, the snap on wrench will ONLY tighten.
just buy this from Snap On http://buy.snapon.com/catalog/search...e=snapon-store
