Double check the plug wires and make sure they're going to the proper places on the dist.
1,3,4,2 is the firing order right?
Did you put the dist on 180deg out?
It's keyed, but somehow people sometimes do that anyway.
And did you set your base timing or at least mark it before removing the dist?

Sounds like your timing is off. Did you double check the distributor bolts to make sure they were tight? Dash lights are dimming probably because you've drained your battery trying to crank it. Always always always double check timing any time you loosen or remove your distributor.
is TDC setting on the crankshaft pully and the camshaft mark is where the first intial spark from the spark plug?

so what do i do? rotate the crank shaft to TDC then line up the dist with which ever order TDC is . and match it up with the dist making #1one the dist. go to #1 on the engine ? if that makes sense?

i changed my distributor not too long ago and did not mark anything except the spark plug order. maybe i just got lucky because i havent had any timing problems. if it helps do not tighten the three bolts holding it all the way. tighten them slowly going alternate with each bolt. as for the timing when i put the dizzy back i took the cap off and played around with the rotor until it felt firmly in place with the crank.
1 wire goes to bottom left, then 3 goes to top left, 4 goes to top right, 2 goes to bottom right
