Shifter moves in 1st and 2nd gear
Hi guys I have a 94 ej1 with a b16a second gen swap in it with a ls tranny, well today I was beating on my car I went threw 1st,2nd,3rd then came to a complete stop (due to a stop light). So as I put it in first again I feel that my shifter moves alot more then was it should when I accelerate but it only does it when its in 1st or 2nd gear, 3rd and 4th is nice and tight. I dont know what it could be
plz help
plz help
shifter bushing located on/directly under your actual gear shifter...it could be coming out or has fallen apart.
Also. the joint ON the shift linkage that connects AT the trans could have a ton of slop in it, although if that was the case if would be sloppy in all gears.
btw, how much do you like the ls trans with the b16

Look at the bars running from the back side of your trans towards the rear of the car. There are a few bushings(rubber pieces) that help to stabilize your linkage. Check all the bolts, for tension, and make sure it all looks to be in working order.
Well I just took a look at it and everything seems to be good, nice and tight but what i also did was i put the car on jack stands and put it on 1st gear gear to see if it moves while it was in the air but no movment but then i put it on the ground again and it moves again so im confuse right now.

this is the area directly under the shifter..inspect everything is tight.
CAREFULLY have someone sit in the car and move it through the gears while you are underneath inspecting these areas..look for slop/excessive movement
bushings are good and I took off the linkage that connects to the tranny and I inspected them and everything seems to be good so I put them back on tight, number 18 that whole rod moves when in 1st, 2nd, reverse when I accelerate.

It's the small "alligator" pin #22. I've known some people who misplaced it and tried to use a screw instead. Gotta have the right pin in there.
yea i did all of that and still the same thing, i have the right pin, and i replaced my bushings and stupid linkage number 13 still moves im out of ideas

checked your motor mounts? you know the entire shift rod and torque rod floats on the rear bushing, that's so it doesn't bind up, in a front wheel drive car, the entire engine and transmission wants to rotate in line with the drive shaft, when it moves under initial acceleration, the entire shift assembly can slide back and forth, if your motor mounts are worn, the engine can rotate more then normal, especially in first and second, and this will cause the shifter to move more. the transmission moves the shift assembly like a bell crank.
yes your correct i was cheking over my mounts and i noticed that my rear t mount that holds the tranny, well that bolt is missing well both are i guess it came off when i was hitting it because i did hear something metal fall off but i thought it was something else, but thank you for everyone in assisting me in my problem

sometimes you can find that energy suspension kit on egay cheap, while you are working on it, it's an easy swap, makes a big difference, especially that rear bushing, the factory one is weak, that single bushing has the entire weight of the shifter, torque rod, shift mechanism, shift **** etc, all hanging off of it. The energy suspension one is tough, the factory one you can bend with your fingers
