D16z6 - what could i do to increase horsepower?
Okay so i have a 1994 Honda Civic Cx Hatchback with the 95 D16z6 Motor
I was wondering what could i do to increase my horsepower. My friends seem to think the car is junk but after i take them for a cruise they say it has alot of power.. but i feel if my tiny car was pushing more than the 120hp.. I wana push around 300hp if possible.. any suggestions?

Re: D16z6 Questions
no way to steer clear of any Force induction with a d series block... ive only seen all motor h22's built to the max pushing 350. if u wanna do it all motor u need a big block swap... the d series on stock block can make near 200 with boost. as marc said u have to build the bottom end and turbo to reach 300hp... an all motor d series built to the max will only make 160-170hp... by the time u spent all your pennies to do that u could have done a h22 swap or b18c5 and have 200 hp

Re: D16z6 Questions
Nope. You could spend a few hundred in junk parts for the turbo setup (not counting engine management) to a few grand or even 5 figures. The engine building is the same for internals.
Start researching.

for all the right parts... it could cost around $1,500 depending on where you buy the parts from or from hook ups. I'm building my d16z6 and a LSV motor and for comparison my d16z6 is my cheaper build because I'm building my LSV from scrap. but if your budget is a thing for you; you could prob get a whole LS motor/tranny for 700 bucks(at least you can here in FL). Get a GSR or B16 head ($350-$500) to make it LSV for a quick 180hp.

A supercharger would also invoke a very mature feeling while driving.
Don't forget a good tune (mandatory).

whatever mr. honda tech master. i just gave him an idea on how much it will cost to fully build a z6 top/bottom end. Usually when they see its that much for a D series then from experience from other people and seeing it in other posts on this site and d-series.org they always then ask about just doing a swap.

Re: D16z6 - what could i do to increase horsepower?
And what about a built D-series is going to get him any where NEAR 300 horsepower? He won't even come close to 200. Your suggestions don't meet the OPs requirements.
And you keep talking this swap nonsense. Which swap get's him 300hp? Without turbo? Noticed I asked him why he was set on 300hp?
When he comes to the realization that he's pipe dreaming and asks for realistic outcomes then I would recommend a swap or boost but NEVER an N/A D-series. That's just a waste of money. For what you spend on getting the max power of of a D you can swap and boost your car.

This thread just like every other one about getting more HP out of my D series with bolt-ons cause I am scared of turbos is useless.

Telling the truth is intimidation?
So pretty much this salesman is telling you the same thing. You won't get 300hp or even 200hp out of your D-series.

Don't let these guys intimidate you to much. The D16 powerplant does have potential even naturally aspirated, but a much more realistic horse power goal would be 150-160 whp for a street car. Got to consider the factory engine produce around 90 hp at the wheels from the factory.

Re: D16z6 - what could i do to increase horsepower?
ok..... go turbo
stock d16 blocks can handle around 230whp and about 200ft-lbs of tq
if you throw some eagle rods/vitara pistons the motor can handle 400whp without cracking a sleeve
if you are gonna boost the stock motor buy a turbo kit off ebay that is the cxracing or godspeed brand
whole kit should be under 700 bucks
for under 200whp you dont need to upgrade injectors but you will need a tune and 200whp will almost max out the stock injectors duty cycle
get a chipped ecu for 100 bucks
pay 250 for a dyno tune with crome pro
you have 200whp for 1000 bucks or so
200whp in a d series is alot faster then you think
full b series swap weighs around 100 lbs more then most d series swaps
and its cheaper then doing a b swap and way way faster
you might get 70 ft-lbs more torque then a b swap and 60 more whp
my d15 mini me made good power check out the signature
ebay .50 turbo
trust fmic
trust intercooler piping
stock 240cc injectors
hks ssqv1 bov
tuned with crome pro
and if you dont no this bhp is way different then whp
when you see a b18c5 advertise 200hp on some engine importing website
take 30-40hp off that and thats how much whp itll have
unless it says whp most people advertise with bhp to make you think you have more power then you actaully have
and btw 300whp nless you are running some serious tires you wont even get traction on the highway
the b20b turbo setup you see in my sig had an lsd gsr tranny with 205/50/15 tires would light up the tires in 4th gear and would be chirping hard into 5th so 300 you dont need
