Default '04 Odyssey shifter problem-please help

Slightly over 200,000 miles on the tranny and never had a problem. But now, when moving the shifter into any gear it drops in loosely, like no click or stop at all. Dealer said it's the cable that runs through the trans and they recommend replacing the whole trans-$4500. Any cheaper fix? Buy a used tranny or rebuild?
Thanks.

That dealer is trying to rip you off. It sounds like the shift interlock stopper is broken, which is a recall item on some Honda's (I don't remember off the top of my head if yours is mentioned).

Find another dealer and get a 2nd opinion. It sounds like a $100 fix.
