Scraping noise coming from wheel
I've been having a weird scraping noise since I gave my very tall, large brother (320lbs) a ride. It's a tsk...tsk...tsk... noise, and it increases in frequency with speed but stops around 40-50 mph, and becomes more random, or stops. I tried taking the wheel off and spinning the hub, without any noise, but when I bolt the wheel on and spin it (on a jack) it makes the noise. Any thoughts?
It sounds like the rotor splash guard is coming into contact with the rotor. Check on the backside of the rotor and push the thin metal splash guard towards the center of the car just a little bit, and see if the noise goes away.
I'm pretty sure it's not the brakes or the splash guard. As I said before, it only happens with the wheel on, when I take the wheel off and spin it it goes away.
