I want to put a vtec head on my LS block but the most reasonable price is on a bare head. I want to know if buying a bare head is too much of a gamble?

 

how bare are you talking?

 

I have been offered one recently that all its missing its the vtec solenoid and the valve cover everything else seems to be on it.

 

that isnt a bare head at all lol

tell him you need a shop to look at the head before you buy it to check if its okay to use. If its good, you cover the cost, if its bad, he covers the cost. cause at that point, why would anyone buy a warped/damaged head. the cost to repair can exceed what the head is even worth. Good luck//

ya that's not "bare" bare is no cams rockers or any of that.

 

At very least, you need the camshaft holders. They're line bored to fit the head and if you switch them, you could have issues. See diagram
