Default Tips on installing IM thermal gasket

I just got done replacing my intake manifold and also used a generic Hondata IM gasket. Problem is it leaks now and it did not do that before. I know I probably didn't clean the mating surfaces up well enough but I did use peanut butter high temp sealant. My question is should I use the black RTV instead or any at all? I'm not looking forward to taking the manifold off again but its got to be done, I wanna make sure it doesn't leak again. Any tips would be appreciated.

Gaskets are used to seal any minor imperfections in the mating surfaces, which should be clean and flat. If not clean and flat, it doesn't matter how much goo is used it will leak.

I found out what my problem was. I believe it was overly-tightened and not done in sequence so on the driver side the gasket was sticking 1/10 of an inch further out than it should have been creating a vaccum leak, a bad leak. For now though, I just used some RTV to seal it up, when it dries it will probably be fine.

What is the correct sequence btw? I know its like 17 ft lbs that's about it.

Alright, good to know. The sealant I used didn't work for long and now its leaking again and causing 1000-1100k idle in gear, and very annoying and erratic idle in N and P.

I think I may have permanantly warped my plastic gasket though, I hope not. If it did (you you think the gasket is done for?), I guess i'll go back to a paper gaskets.

The intake gasket melted, I think it was from when my car overheated, what do you think?

My car overheated, how is this my fault? You guys are unreasonable.

I'm going to be laughing my *** off and thanking God when something bad happens to one of you guys' cars, then we'll see who's messing things up. Hell just the other week I read a story on Cb7tuner about how someone's driving buddy died in an accident while at a park, I just can't believe people can be so pompous about cars after reading such things.

Ok, so here's the deal. Your thermal gasket, assuming you bought it brand new, comes with instructions. I gotta think it never said to use rtv. They even have instructions at the hondata website. I was looking at em last night just for ***** and giggles.

The reason people are getting frustrated with you is that you are getting all the easy things wrong. It would appear, atleast on paper(this board) that you know atleast a little bit about working on cars, but you are asking questions for the simplest things.

LOL. Car overheats, not my fault! You sound like a ditsy girl. Your plan on getting power and doing a manual conversion but yet you can't simply monitor your vehicle? This is great

Oh. And about the injectors, I didn't exactly see your pro tuning advice giving any suggestions.

hahaha ikr. i can imagine he has a blown headgasket, warped head/block looking at what the overheat did to that gasket. probably doesn't know how to diagnose a blown headgasket

that gasket max temp is about 500 Fahrenheit, so either he bought a knockoff on ebay or he just totally fucked his engine over

Would you like a Bisimoto thermal gasket? I have two for sale because they could never seem to send me the correct one for my motor...

I'll happily part with it for $40 brand new in packaging..

Seeing that they are $48.99 a piece, $40 wouldn't really be worth it. $30 would though. Let me see a pic of it on the marketplace and I'll get it.

If they didn't send you the right one why didn't you take it back?
