Hello all,
I am looking to purchase a turbo and I am currious if the turbo in the link below will have a quick spool, and still be able to hold my power. I know its a cheapo comparred to a garret or precision. I am not asking about quallity. Ive been reading about what sizes and ratios to use just I dont quit understand. The turbo has two different trims. They say a 50 trim woukd be decent for a d series to have quick spool. This turbo has a 48 comressor side and 61 exhaust side. I just dont understand which is reffered to by the 50 trim term. Will this turb be quick spooling and yet be able to hold around 200-250 hp at high rpms without choking itself out?

OP. FAQs. Read them before asking this Turbo 101 question.

The turbo is a complete pile of ****. Either do it properly or don't bother. There are plenty of other less expensive hobbies out there you can enjoy that won't cost you as much....

 

If it is junk theb what would you recommend? Other than a entry level precision or garret which I know are 650-700?

 

Best bet is a .63 ar 50 or 57 trim. eBay turbo won't be a good choice but works

 

Sounds like your pockets aren't that deep. Just get whatever you can get your hands on. This is not an inexpensive hobby. CX Racing can hook you up. Or just get a the biggest JDM Ebay turbo kit with the most parts in it you can find.

 

let me know where you are getting a garret or precision turbo for 650-700 because that's not what they go for last time i checked. a garret off rip i believe is 1100 last time i checked a couple months ago

That's what you're going to spend, unless you buy a used Garrett, Precision, Borg Warner, Holset, etc...

Plan to spend $600+ on a good turbo and somewhere in the neighborhood of $4500 for the complete setup (after a clutch and tuning)

 

That's turbo by itself. you have a IC and boost couplers, FPR, boost piping, Blow off valve, exhaust manifold, down pipe, boost and fuel pressure gauges, turbo timer, all oil feed lines, MAP sensor, and most importantly a good ECU program? That is why i am saying it's going to cost you a pretty penny more than 6-700 dollars. i'm only saying because i am in the same boat , but only have my turbo itself. so i'm still in need of a majority of these parts and needless to say the rest of the items are usually a little pricey, and i won't be able to walk away paying $1000 for everything else i need. it's going to take some time to collect everything for a proper set up, even on a entry level. that's all i'm tring to get at.

 

You said "Garrett turbo" for that money and that's what that link is for. Not turbo and all the ancillary components because you only just now mentioned those. Anybody building a decent setup knows there's going to be more money spent. And definitely anyone that's bothered to read any real builds of the FAQs should know that as well.

 

I get that I was responding to the person who asked about where you could get a precision or garret for $6-700. Op just take your time piece yourself together a kit with used parts and such it might just take some time and searching

Oh sry lol. You're not going to find anything that cheap that is worth getting. if you piece together a kit you can do it for a little under $2k with used quality parts if not go auto works is your best bet.

 

Picked up a turbonetics T04B/T3 turbo for 175.00 and 75$ worth of rebuild parts. You just need to know where to look.
