Default Three bad D-series Auto transmissions. Scrap them?

I have 3 D-series automatic transmissions from Del Sols and a Civic that are all bad.

#1 Cracked case - unknown history, came with a 1995 D15b7
#2 Was badly overheated - unknown history, came with a 1997 D16Y8
#3 Was slipping and didn't shift well when it was cold, shifted fine after warm-up. (1994 D15b7) I drove it for 6 months before swapping out.

Is there any sense in trying to put together one good transmission out of these? I've never had a transmission apart (with the intention of putting it back together) and still don't quite understand what evil magic happens inside the automatics.

So, is it worth pulling parts from #1 and #2 to fix #3 or should I just recycle the metal?

Do you have access to a press, micrometers, and the like and a good hand?
if yes I say you should...

Get the transmission manual and a rebuild kit then get to work on transmission number 3. At the same time tear down the other two to use for replacement components if there's any broken in 3# that the kit does not have. (considering it was just slipping there shouldn't be anything)

final step, find a use it or sell it for mulah!

I did a bit research on automatic problems when I was looking for a car for my Niece. There's an awful lot of D-series cars from all model years out there on the cheap if you're able to repair an auto tranny.

Potentially, you could utilize some good bearings or working solenoids, but that's probably going to be it. Worn clutches are what usually bring these things to halt and you wouldn't want a used one given the relatively low cost for new replacements.

I'd be tempted to crack open the one that slipped just for the hell of it. If you were to find only clutches showing excessive wear, it could be low cost fix and some good experience. Check this out for more info: http://www.civicforums.com/forums/36...nsmission.html

Thanks for the input. I think that I will go ahead and rebuild #3 at least for the experience and hopefully for a good spare transmission. I'll bag and tag the bearings and solenoids from the other two just in case.

That's a good thread for auto transmissions, thanks for posting it.
