Default quicky... How long do d16y8 auto trannies last?

I am just wanting to know how long D16y8 automatic transmitions last mileage wise or years... or warning signs... Why? Because I am looking for every excuse to change from auto to manual asap... But I cannot justify it just yet until I get some problems.

I am at 91,000 miles now... With doing appraisals, I can jump that another 40k within a year. I am thinking by summer I will have been at or past the 100k mark,... and if it would be cheaper for a shop to do the swap around the same time as timing belt and pumps.. heck, I might just do that. (Can't do it myself, no equipment...)

Thanks for any info... (God I hope it is in the lower 100ks....)

replace at 91,002 miles
if you take care of it then it should last for quite a long time, like anything else.

One rare bit of info I've always wondered about is what is the difference between the auto EX tranny and the auto DX/LX tranny?

Man you hate everyone in in every thread ever huh?

Anyways.....my tranny outlasted my engine I'm close to 190,000 right now and it still runs fine. All I added was some tranny fluid renewer and its all good. Never flushed it either.

Wow... haven't heard that response before.... unoriginal, and childish.

Back to the original question though... Ive heard 150,000 and going strong... Anyone really know when it fails or needs service?

my friend has a 92 DX with 150 on the odo but the ODO didn't work for about 2 years. It's on the original tranny, but someone swapped in a D16Z6 when the crank pully fell off. Yes, the car was bought at auction and the head of the crank bolt was just tack-welded in place. It didn't last long. Rather than extract the bolt, a swap was performed. They put in a D16Z6 but didn't involve the vtec.
I know that doesn't help you, but I think your tranny is on it's last leg and I suggest you go buy a manual swap IMMEDIATELY. Better safe than sorry.
