Default Compression Question

Have a 2001 accord ex, 4 cylinder.

Compression tests at 210 psi. Not a misprint, 210 psi. All cylinders, with two different meters.

Any ideas what can cause this?

a good seal on the rings and valves...?

I wouldn't give it too much significance if they are all about the same. these numbers aren't crazy high. you're spinning 7 times to take your readings?

That's a high reading, how could that be a bad thing?

Was the throttle body fully open during test or closed, wet cylinders or dry, warm engine or cold, engine RPM while cranking? These all factor into your overall compression results.

They key to the results is that all of your cylinders readings are within 25 psi of each other. If you got 210 psi across the board, you have a healthy engine.

I picked up a 99 4 cylinder for my wife the other day. I removed the fuel pump fuse and did a compression test. I did not floor the gas pedal though. I pulled all the spark plugs and did the test one cylinder at a time, with the rest of them empty.

My numbers for the compression test are 225, 220, 215, 225. I thought they were a bit high as well, but as others have said, as long as the values are within 10% of each other, everything is good.

In 2002, when I did it on my 94 Accord with 83k miles, I got -165psi,175psi, 165psi, 160psi. I now have 260k miles on my 94 Accord.

Test was done warm, dry, throttle open, about 7 revs, unknown rpm.

If all I had was high compression I wouldn't worry, but...

There is often a knock/ping coming from engine under gentle acceleration. Seems to come and go in spurts. Kind of sounds like a ratchet wrench, but a little lower and slower. Not sure if it goes away in 4th and 5th gear or is covered by other noises. Seems more related to throttle position than rpm. Is faster paced with more throttle, but hard to track because I can't hear it above 3 or 4k rpm. It's not loud, but definitely not normal.

No codes, timing is spot on.

In "olden times" knocks and pings could be caused by carbon buildup and pre-ignition, hence my concern about higher than normal compression. But really, I've never heard a sound like this.

Let us hear it. A nice high quality compression result is nothing to be concerned about. lol
