b20z starts, idles at 5k
Motor is clean, pretty fresh. I put on a new iacv (whatever the acronym is) on this morning after cleaning the old one with the same effect.
I have not done anything with the fitv (again whatever the acronym is) but Ive done the vacuum trick and there is only suction on the top hole before the throttle plate. Reason I am having this trouble is because the idle was surging between the standard 1000 and 1500. Well, I plugged the top hole before doing any replacements and by doing this the idle surging stopped and she idled nicely.
I am at my wits end with this car and I would really appreciate some input. Everything is tightened to my liking, hoses have been checked and there are no CEL.

just to be sure we are on the same page, car starts fine, immediately shoots to 5000rpm and wont back down at all for anything.
Adjusting the idle screw will really have that big of an effect?

I am at a total loss here. Unplugged the damn iacv with a minor effect. unplugged the map sensor I assume (black sensor hanging off the throttle body, and messed with the vacuum return thing for the throttle plate.) which only got me a CEL......
There are only the iacv, the black sensor assuming its the map on the throttle body, teh vacuum thing for the throttle return I assume, and thats it! no other visible or otherwise hidden pieces to this puzzle.

Forget the idle screw...mess with that when you get the idle down. get a few cans of carb cleaner and spray the **** out the intake. You have a vaccum leak somewhere if it is at 5000rpms on startup. This happened on a buddys car and it turned out that the the intake manifold gasket was improperly installed. Do you have access to a smoke machine for evap and intake system leaks?
take off your intake, fire the car up and put your hand over the tb. it should stall, if not you have a big vac leak and you are getting air from somewhere else. check your brake booster tube and other ports on the back to see if you left something off
