90 Si Hatch Head is smoking bad what to do now
I have a d16a6 in the good old si still but with 318k on the car who knows how old the motor is. the head has seen better days started smoking a little in the fall last year but after winter and it gettn warm its starting to get bad! Under pressure and on the pedal, it puffs some black smoke clouds. and its just gettn worse smokes all the time now.
I did get a compression test done to check rings (190, 195, 195, 192) dry (205,210,210,207) wet they where the same, so im thinking the head gasket and rings are doing well, makes me think the head was milled before and new gasket on.
Found a Rebuild head off a running car that the piston rings went out for 50$so im thinking to pick it up keeping it going and get planning for a Build ZC dohc or sohc (turbo) rebuild head prot polish and build it up. or maybe an ls swap let me know what you thing, and the reality of the work and money it takes for both.

oil is leaking.
Why not fix the leak with seals.
you for sure don't need another head.
gaskets, yes.
Once the oil leak is fixed, no more leaks and no more smoke.

black smoke coulds getting worse when weather is improving makes me thing engine coolant temp or intake air temp... both go toward calculating how much fuel to put in due to the density change in air as temperature changes. if they fail, they fail open, meaning they show the ECU that it's -32F or something like that, and cars in cold weather run very rich.
if you were burning oil, the smoke clouds would be blue.

hmm ok what to do to check this out?
I know the thermostat is like 6 months old, so do I need to check all the sensors on the Intake Mani? Should I get a lower temp thermostat it does have a Big radiator on it the previous owner put it in I think its an integra one or a racing one?, but the temp does take time to get to the normal temp, but it sits still in the middle after a 10 min drive like it should..?
I also found this video should I give it a try...?

I've done a few engines that way as well! Works great!
I'd like to suggest nylon cord rather than rope. Much softer.
That guy should consider an oil change. Burnt black.
I actually change my oil after having the cover off so I spray stuff off with the red can of brake cleaner first to clear the junk off. Then I plug the holes.

Nice! It will save me time and money from taking off the head and redoing it all then timing and everything again so it looks like a great easyer way. I just need to pick up a good magnet and what are a good valve stem seal brand to get all the same...?
Oh and blue is intake and brown is exhaust...? it makes the most sense air and carbon

I checked it out they get you on shipping fees and then a handling fee was over 15$ that's a joke for small light weight rubber seals, I work for an auto shop im going to try ordering them in at dealer price for somewhere and see what that bring me to.
Thanks for the site tho! I did have one question the O-rings on the cam cradle/ holder assembly what ever they are. The ones on partsdeal.com has cyc 3 having one look like a figure 8 but all the kits I found only have a rounds...? does it matter I haven't found a picture to confirm a different o-ring there.

^^^^^^^^^ Done 23$ both blue and drown ones free shipping... which side is which blue intake, brown exhaust..?
Should get this done next week on a day off and adjust the valves and change the Cam cradle O-rings while its off! I'm hoping I become smoke free!

Well started tonight got the valve cover off and the rocker arms off the spark plug gasket seals where definitely bad leaking in the spark plug holes old crunchy gaskets, just makes me think what the valve stem seals are going to be like tomorrow morning. easy to get everything off and swapped tomorrow will be that harder of the two changing the valve stem seals (Got all Honda original parts!)
