Is this crankshaft keyway slot useable???
I am currently rebuilding an engine that has been boosted before. the engine is a d16z6 motor going vitaras eagle combo. Now the block head pistons.rods etc all almost done to be put in. the crankshaft on the other hand is also polished to also waiting for some other parts like timing belt and etc.
my question is that the crankshaft is already machined polished by a machine shop and they told me the crankshaft will have no problems. inspected etc, that the key way can be run. i also got another new pulley on the way the pulley looks in good shape but they recommend me to change one. i also assume its still good usable because the machinest inspected it????? but still scared if it would come off.....
here is the pic. the old pulley is put on with the new keyway and bolt. it feels very tight. but waiting on the new pulley?
after i rebuild this i will run turbo and i already spent the remaining parts for it.
if what i assume i could some hard locktite liquid to put on when i put the crank bolt back.. ReD????? locktite???? and tighten the crap out of it. if i put alot of locktite it would have a hard time to come off???
the machine shop says it will work w/out any problems so buying a new used crankshaft is not an option.
will the bolt pulley come off??? i will also boost it. and DD car

I think it's still useable. Grind the rough edges smooth (without grinding flat spots on the crank) and make sure the key way is nice and smooth. My cd5 is more beat up than that and it still runs great.

why did this happen in the first place? i dont really know because i got this engine used???

That's a pretty small chip. If you're really worried about it use some Loctite shaft and bearing mount on the bolt and crank it on there with a good inpact gun. I legitimately ruined the keyway in my crank when the bolt backed out and the pulley came loose. Replace the pulley and key and jammed a ground down finishing nail in the keyway, put some shaft and bearing mount on the bolt, it's held up for the last 30,000kms.

what is shaft bearing mount.
That happens when someone uses an impact gun to put on the pulley without making sure the crank, key and pulley are mated properly.
Mine looked 5x worse, and it still would have worked but the machinist went ahead and put a lil weld, then ground it out smooth, just to be sure.
