Hey guys, i noticed a rattling or vibrating sound coming from the driver side of my engine bay the past few days, thinking it could possibly be a valve problem (timing/valve spring?) i've attached a video of the car idling, hope someone with more knowledge than me could pinpoint what may be causing it, thanks in advance H-T!

 

Mileage? Timing belt been done?

The autotensioner for the timing belt are notorious for failure on these engines.

138,000ish now, timing belt was replaced around 95,000, the noise seems to be coming from the top end...hard to pinpoint though, i don't recall it happening when i had my timing belt/water pump changed beforehand.

 

Mine sounded some what like that when my stock tensioner failed.
I got lucky and the belt did not skip.

 

adjust your valves and see if that helps.

 

my prelude has been making a similar sound coming from the alternator lately it could possibly be that

 

mine sounds the same. changed timing belt and tensinor. gone. I highly reccomend the kstuned.com one. i ordered it from there.

 

*UPDATE* it was coming from the crank pulley, apparently it's loose and now the bolt is seized up and won't come out to replace it, looks like whoever replaced it previously cross-threaded it or something :-\

 

heat it up and put some penetrant oil

 

thanks, i'll give it a go, was reading all kinds of threads on various ways to get that bolt off, seems like it's pretty notorious for being a difficult one.
