Default K20/K24 Start Issues

Ok guys,

Finally got the swap started, however, it will only start with the ckp unplugged. Yes I get a cel for the ckp when its running unplugged. Now if I plug the ckp back in I get no code but the car wont start. If the pulse rate sprocket was on backwards I would get a CEL when plugged in correct?

So now im out of options and i have been looking for days.

I have k20a2 harness, with k20a2 ckp, on k24 block. I shouldn't need a k24 ckp Also bought a new ckp and same issue.

Any help from anyone would be great.

hello, did you put this engine together on your own?

Did it come ready to go?

If timing is off by a lot, the engine is not going to start based on the cpk signal.

With the k20a2 harness you cannot really plug the k24a cpk unless you rewire it and file down the connector because it is not going to fit just like the k20a2 cpk fits .

My guess is that when you were putting the engine together you only paid attention to the 2 timing marks up top and forgot to aligh the 3rd timing mark on the oil pump gear in order to get it in right timing.

If this is an engine you just received from someone else, I would first test to see if the timing is right.

Take out a spark plug from one of the cylinder and find a long screwdrive or something long that will fit through the spark plug hole.

Then with a wrench, just turning your crank pulley, causing slowly your pistons to go up and down. As you are doing this, and assuming your valve cover is off start looking for the timing marks on your cam gears. As the piston reaches TDC you should be close to the timing marks on your cam gears getting aligned.

If your timing is right, my only other guess would be the magnetic pulse sprocket . Of course there is no easy to check this with the engine inside the car.

I have checked the tming and the cams line up with the tdc on crank pully . The engine came together , I will check the crank sprocket to see if it's backwards

Update: I took apart the timing side, eveything lines up correctly. Cam gears, to TDC, and to the 3/8 marks on the cams. The crank sprocket was correct with outside facing oitside. Put eveything back together and the car still will not start with the crank sensor pluged in *no codes* , it will run in limp mode with it unpluged and throw the crank code. I am lost not other ideas. Anyone?

Ok this is bugging me. Car starts with no CKP plugged in. But wont start plugged in.

New Engine Harness.
New K24 CKP
New K20 CKP
New Cam Sensors
Checked Kpro on Buddies Car
To Many Grounds to list
Timing is Dead on
NO CEL
Checked Crank pulser it is not backwards. * Do they go bad?*
New Plugs
Checked Injectors

Would c302 have anything to do with CKP?
