Icon2 1994 integra water temp sensor

I recently had a problem with my car overheating; I then changed the thermostat which solved the problem. The check engine light was on though and I checked the codes and it was saying the water temperature sensor was the problem. I checked to make sure the fans worked by jumping the wires and they did so I replaced the water temperature sensor, and now the fans come on; but the check engine light is still coming on and indicating its the water temperature sensor. But if I let the car warm up and then turn the car off and back on the check engine light doesn't come on. I'm not sure what the problem is; any help would be appreciated.

The fan switch isn't monitored I/O in the OBD system. The TW sensor is monitored.
