95 Civic 160i blown water pipe
Hey all,
The other day my car overheated on my way home. I got home and parked and left it to cool off. When i went to check what was wrong i found the radiator empty so i filled it only to find the curved bypass hose at the back on the left(facing the engine) was "ripped".
So i've now replaced the bypass hose and have not found any other problems but find that there is water coming out of my exhaust and bubbles coming out the radiator. Is there just water in the engine from the rupture, or have i blown my head gasket?
Is there anything else i should check while i'm at it?

Hey, Thanks for the quick reply.
So as i understand it, i let the car idle for a bit and then open the bleed screw right?
Also planning to take the spark plugs out tomorrow to check if any of them are wet, i already did a spark check though and they were all firing.

Okay i'll give that a try. I don't run the risk of further damaging the engine if the head gasket is already gone by doing this right?
Keep an eye on the coolant temp, but from what you've described, its likely the head gasket. If it looks like this:
then it's the head gasket. That's my old CRX, I would know lol.

hey guys, sorry for the long silence. So i checked everything i could and bled but it was still doing like the video. So been waiting on parts. Managed to find a generic gasket set thankfully, honda was telling me to wait a month lol.
So i've managed to get everything undone so far. but my cylinder head is stuck. I tried the rope trick and that cracked it off the block, but the bottom right side is still stuck. Is there a bolt somewhere there that i have missed?
It's a D16A7 engine.

i found the radiator empty
Any suggestions about the bottom right corner being stuck?
if you mean the bottom one, then no, can't find a way to get it out without dismantling everything on that side. I did undo the bolts though the two that sit sort of under the camshaft gear(?).
If that's the case i am gonna send it to my mechanic, i don't have a proper work space for that much work.

okay so i managed to get it off and the head and block don't appear to be warped so busy putting it all back together.
Then i need to flush the cooling system a couple times some of the sealant that was put on the old gasket has gone in there when i was cleaning it.
Can i do this with the radiator or should i disconnect the outlet from the engine to prevent blockages in the radiator?
