Icon6 Civic HX 1997 VTECH-E transmission replace

Hi,
I'm new to the forum. I have just replaced the engine with another 1.6 liter stock engine. The old engine had 230,000 miles and the new one has 117,000. It purrs like a kitten. However, on the day of the test drive, the automatic transmission failed. LOL
I am stuck between a rock and a hard place. I just spent $1500 for the engine and now I'm back to owning a useless car. After reading the horror stories about the CVT transmissions, I now know that I should have junked the car when the engine failed.
But I am hoping I can salvage the situation with a used transmission. I found a couple on E-Bay being sold for $300. But they match the VTEC engine. I have been told that the CVT transmission will only fit the VTEC-E engines. So far it's almost impossible to fins a CVT tranny.
Anyone have any advice. I can't afford to spend a fortune to get this car running again. Thanks for any help.

Do an auto to manual swap auto's suck. Im sure you have the "know how" if you did the swap you'r self.

you can only put a cvt transmission back in. you could swap to a manual I guess, but i'm not sure it's even worth it at this point.

That's the total cost so far. No I didn't swap the engines. I paid a local garage to do it. That cost also includes a new starter and welding of a large crack in the exhaust manifold. So paying someone to do a swap to manual transmission doesn't work for me.

I wish I could find a CVT tranny so that I can at least get the car moving and use it for a while before selling. That I could probably install myself. 30 years ago I swapped out a Toyota engine myself.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I located a used transmission on eBay for $300 plus $200 shipping. I could not find one local to CT. The seller is in Alberta Canada and says the tran has only 55k miles on it even though it came out of a '97. Apparently this is a Japanese import and over there people get rid of cars as they approach 60k because of the heavy taxes and fees the government charges for older cars. Let's hope this works out.
