I have a 1996 dx sedan 5 speed with 306,000 miles. It recently developed a bit of an odd problem. It now sputters and misses at anything over a 1/4 throttle. It clears up above 3k rpm. The cel is on but I can't get codes with the jumper method. The light comes on goes off for a second when fuel pump kicks off then back on when the key is on with jumper wire in place. The cell will occasionally flash 4 times while driving then stay solid again.

I have new igniter, new coil, new cap and rotor. Wires look new, and plugs are a month old. Has new fuel and air filters too.

If anyone has any ideas on a possible cause, please post away.

 

Well I got codes ran today, had a misfire on cylinders 1 thru 4. An a o2 sensor reading lean. Replaced plugs and it helped a little. Doing wires asap but none in stock that I can afford right now locally. I found a crack in my exhaust manifold, I am thinking that may be the cause of my lean o2 reading, so will fix that as soon as I get another day off work.
