Timing Belt Change on a 96 2.2 Questions
Hey Guy's I'm doing the timing belt water pump and tension's on my 96 Accord 2.2. I have everything torn and installed the water pump and now I'm ready for the reassembly. What I am puzzled about is the rear tensioner has a slot in it that appears to have had a bolt that held it in a position. This bolt is not there anymore for some reason? Is this bolt necessary? Do I need to get a replacement?

Yea I figured as much. I guess my post wasn't clear. What I want to know is is that somthing that is alway's there? Or is that bolt simply to aid in the removal and adjustment of the timing set? My Chilton manual is a bit foggy on that particuler part.... I have read elsewear that is used for simple removal and adjustment then once the belt is in place all the adjustments are made you are good to go athe bolt can be removed. My car was serviced at the Dealer only and appeared to have the original idler bearings....
No, there is not suppose to be any bolt there to begin with.
That hole is there for you to use one of the timing cover bolt to hold the timing belt tensioner in place IF you're going to replace the balancer belt only. That way, when you undo the bolt for the tensioners, the timing tensioner doesn't loosen up the belt in anyway.

Wait, are you referring to the 10mm bolt that goes in the corner of the tensioner or the bolt that is 14mm that goes through the center of the tensioner? Pic would be great.

It's a 10mm head bolt. I'm not too sure what the thread pitch nor diameter size of the threaded area of the bolt is. Any of the upper or lower timing cover bolts will work with that hole.
