Icon2 "Chunky" distributor

1990 Honda Civic base model hatch back. No spark.

Replaced the coil and igniter, still no spark, but that's not what I'm after here (unless you have some idea of what it could be. Need to go over it all again and see if I got a bad part, etc, etc)

What I did notice is that the distributor does not turn smoothly. It's "chunky" if you will. I'd say the bearing is bad if that's a thing. At any rate, I'm guessing this isn't normal, doubt that it has anything to do with no spark, but wonder if I should replace the thing anyway?

Motor has at least 270k on it. (That's when I got tired of the speedo screaming and disconnected it. ) I'm guessing it's around 290k if by now, assuming that's the original motor.

Not multi port fuel injection, if that matters.

I think I know the "chunky" feeling. Does it feel like it clicks evenly from one position to another, all the way around? I have a distributor that feel like that, but I don't know what it means or if it is normal. I do know that it is throwing a code8 (tdc) from the distributor and feels like it's in limpmode and even bogs when leaving stopsigns. I have to restart the car to gain power again for accelerating up to speed.

I have another distributor I just swapped into my car and it feels "chunky" too....almost tick-tocking like a second-hand on a watch as it clicks around from position to position. It can from a great running car.

I originally started with an almost new distributor in the car, but the car was misfiring horribly. That distributor had a very loose wobbly "gear" on the engine-side.

if it clicks smoothly and at the same interval all the way around then it is not bad. that's normal.
