1991 d15b1...code 1..code 8...NEW CHALLENGE!!
Car is pretty much all stock 1991 Civic hb. New parts include, but may not be limited to:
a) fuel pump
b) fuel filter
c) distributor cap
d) ignitor
e) ignition coil
f) rotor
g) spark plugs
h) spark plug wires
i) timing belt
j) swapped out the almost new distributor with a junkyard distributor FROM A CRX; that fixed a previous misfire. Now I have code 8.
k) Just installed a fuel pressure gauge between fuel "can" and injectors...maintains 38psi even 20 minutes after engine turned off. engine revving raises fuel pressure to 42psi.
Here's the symptom's:
I) Code 8 started after I put in a junkyard distributor FROM A CRX that fixed the "misfire when gassed."
II) Feels like a limp-mode rev limiter ABOUT~ 2000rpm..Please confirm if code 1 or code 8 will cause limp-mode.
III) The limpmode revlimiter occurs from first coldstart, and remains even after reaching operating temperature.
IV) It drives great until you hit the superLOW rev limiter.
V) However, when you come to a stop sign, it will hesitate/bog out instead of revving up to start movement.
VI) If you turn the key off and recrank, you overcome the non-driveable bogging at the redlight...then you can get it back to speed and keep driving.
Possible clues:
c1) Idles fine and cranks easily
c2) Removing ANY sparkplug wire causes a drop in idle
c3) Spark is strong and blue and even sparks constantly to the valve cover when plug wire is pulled off.
c4) Per someone's advice, I unplugged the TPS. naturally it gave a code 7, but hesitation is unchanged.
c5) ~12.2 volts on the 2 wires on the ignition coil
c6) Holding a voltmeter red probe near the distributor cap, engine running, will detect random voltage through the AIR....without the black probe touching any ground or anything...spooky..
c7) In darkness tonight, I cranked the engine and revved the throttle body by hand until it misfired. I did not see any spark escaped and shorting to ground....I was watching the plugwires and the distributor area.

I'm so glad to have overcome the misfiring, but I am not "out of the woods" just yet. Thanks to all those who have and all those who will help now. :D
Ultimately, I would like to confirm if code 8 (TDC, located in the distributor??) or code 1 (Oxygen sensor, my wiring is frayed and I will replace ASAP) will DEFINITELY cause "limp mode" and would like to hear suggestions about why it bogs out and has to be restarted to leave a redlight.
Also, if you have input about the causes for TDC code 8, please feel free to add them. I specifically wonder if I put the distributor in 180degrees backward....would it even crank...would that cause "code 8" or "rev limiter limpmode" or "bogging at redlight takeoff"?

I am about to go outside and swap the "code-8, non-misfiring, rev-limiting, junkyard" distributor from the blue car, with the seemingly good distributor from the red car. The "misfiring" distributor originally from the blue car will remain in the trunk and will not be involved in this swap. Let's see what happens...
Can anyone confirm if code 8 or code 1 will cause limpmode?

Yep. I swapped the "seemingly-good distributor" from the red civic into the blue civic....instant perfection!! So the basic summary is:
1. Blue civic with heavy misfire. 1year old distributor went bad.
2. Put junkyard crx distributor in blue civic....code 8 and limpmode...no power at redlights until recranked.
3. Put distributor from red civic into blue civic. Perfect: No codes, runs great!!
